The 10,000 Lives Metric

Every transformative mission begins with a defining realization.

For the LiDAR Saving Lives Public Safety Coalition, that realization came from one extraordinary statistic.

The American College of Surgeons estimates that more than 10,000 trauma deaths every year could be prevented if critically injured crash victims had immediate access to blood transfusions in the field. That estimate became our 10,000 Lives Metric. The benchmark against which we measure every innovation, every partnership, and every demonstration project.

For decades, emergency response has depended largely on someone witnessing a crash and calling 9-1-1, or on legacy telematics systems that still rely on human intervention before emergency resources are dispatched. Yet severe blood loss remains the leading preventable cause of death following serious motor vehicle crashes, where even a few minutes can mean the difference between life and death. 

That challenge has inspired the more than two-decade development of ROADMEDIC® enabling software-defined vehicles to participate intelligently in modern 9-1-1 emergency response.

Since its founding in 2001, ROADMEDIC’s mission has been to transform airbag deployments into immediate, machine-generated emergency signals that help shorten the time between a serious crash and life-saving care. By rapidly delivering critical crash intelligence to 9-1-1 Real Time Intelligence Centers (RTICs), ROADMEDIC® is designed to accelerate emergency response, support Drone First Responder operations, and ultimately enable the aerial delivery of pre-hospital blood to critically injured crash victims while they are still at the scene.

The LiDAR Saving Lives Public Safety Coalition was created to bring together the automotive industry, digital license plates, drone first responders, robotaxi companies, autonomous vehicle operators, public safety, hospitals, government, academia, and technology leaders to help make that vision operational. Together, we are building an open, interoperable Crash-to-Care ecosystem that reduces the time between airbag deployment and definitive trauma care.

Our success will not be measured by the number of autonomous vehicles, drone flights, software deployments, or technology demonstrations.

It will be measured by something far more important:

How many of those 10,000 preventable deaths can we eliminate?

That is the 10,000 Lives Metric.

That is the mission of ROADMEDIC®.
